Reference stringFrequency

Pluck one string at a time, mute the others, and keep the guitar close to the mic. If the reading jumps, raise the noise threshold and back off from fans or speakers.

How the math works

The tuner uses autocorrelation on the incoming waveform to estimate the fundamental period, converts that period into Hertz, then maps the result to the nearest equal-temperament note.

When you would use it

  • Tune a standard electric quickly without opening a separate app.
  • Check Drop D or Open G targets before a take.
  • Use the cents display to see whether a string is drifting slightly sharp under heavy picking.

FAQ

Why does the tuner need microphone access?

Because pitch detection happens from the live input signal in your browser.

Why include a noise threshold?

It keeps room noise from triggering unstable readings when you are not playing.

Can this replace a pedal tuner on stage?

No. It is best used as a practical browser utility, not a stage-hardened hardware replacement.
