How the math works

Equal temperament maps every semitone with the same ratio. This tool uses A4 = 440 Hz, converts MIDI note numbers into Hertz, then works back from any frequency to the nearest equal-temperament note.

When you would use it

  • Check whether a kick or 808 fundamental is landing near the root of the track.
  • Translate a ringing EQ frequency into a note before deciding whether it is musical or distracting.
  • Match drum tuning targets and resonances without opening a separate chart.

Use this when you need to match a kick fundamental, check a ringing resonance, or translate a tuner reading into a note fast.

FAQ

Why does this matter in a mix?

Because many problem frequencies and sweet spots line up with musical notes, especially on drums, bass, and tuned samples.

Does this replace a spectrum analyzer?

No. It gives you the note relationship quickly, then you still make the final move by ear and with a meter.

Which reference pitch does it use?

A4 = 440 Hz in standard equal temperament.
